A room in the garden, custom designed and built as the focal structure for a major landscaping project. Planned for use as a sitting and dining area, with the rafters eventually supporting a canopy of various vines and foliage. The posts, beams and rafters were cut from select redwood timbers, with the post bases made of an extremely hard and weatherproof brazilian walnut.

Posts and beams were hand-notched for traditional wood-on-wood joints –
the sturdiest way to build wood framed structures.
These structural pieces were assembled for an exact tight fit without
metal fasteners such as screws, nails or bolts. |
